TV shows have been gaining a lot of audience lately. There are so many shows and of such great quality that it becomes difficult to watch all the shows at a time. I, for instance, was watching 22 shows at a time. I had to cut some shows; some ended but it was a great experience. It is the US shows which are most popular but over the past couple of years, even UK shows have been gaining popularity.
Now I am going to list the best TV shows running in 2012. This list does not consist of the best TV shows of all time but the best TV shows which are running in 2012. With several great shows running in 2012, it is always difficult to make a top 10 list. I have done my best to list shows which cater to all audiences. Here is the list for the top ten best TV shows running in 2012:
10. Downton Abbey
Downton Abbey is a UK show shown on ITV. It is set in early 1900’s and the years leading to World War 1. It tells the story of the Crawley family who are the lords in England and their many servants. It is one of the few UK based shows that have gained immense popularity in the US and the world. Downton Abbey has a Golden Globe to its name.
9. The Vampire Diaries
Move aside Twilight! The Vampire Diaries is perhaps the most popular show right now and has a whooping 13 Million fans on Facebook. The story is about the people living in Mystic Town and focuses especially on a girl, Elena (played by the hot, Nina Dobrev) who is a doppelganger of Katherine, who was the love of two vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon. The story usually revolves around these three characters. The Vampire Diaries has the hottest cast in TV shows right now and Damon Salvatore (played by Ian Somerhalder) is a huge crush of many girls out there. The best thing of The Vampire Diaries is that each episode ends on a very thrilling turn of events.
8. Suits
Suits is one of the best shows to come out this year. It follows the story of Mike Ross, who ends up working for one of New York City’s best lawyers, Harvey Specter after a drug deal goes bad. The interesting storyline, great acting and the lavish lifestyle shown in the show is attracting a lot of audiences.
7. Breaking Bad
Breaking Bad is a critically acclaimed show with a loyal fan base. It is a story of how a chemistry genius is informed of terminal cancer and he starts to produce high quality drugs. It is one of the best shows on TV.
6. Modern Family
Modern Family is the best family TV show. It is a great comedy which is loved by both the critics and the audiences. It is a very well-scripted show and has a wonderful cast. It is a show about three families and their lives.
5. Dexter
This one is not for children! Dexter is a show about a forensic working in Miami Police who is addicted to killing people. All those people who escape justice from the law are put to justice by Dexter Morgan. Michael C Hall plays Dexter Morgan and his brilliant acting has won over everybody. Dexter has also won 2 Golden Globes.
4. Sherlock
Ever wished to see Sherlock Holmes solving crimes in this modern century rather than the previous one? Your wish has been granted. Sherlock is modern day Sherlock Holmes. The acting is brilliant, writing exceptional and only 3 episodes in a year. Sherlock is another example of UK based shows gaining prominence in the world. Majority of the people who have seen the show say it is better than the Sherlock Holmes movies.
3. Boardwalk Empire
Boardwalk Empire is one of the best shows running in 2012. It is created by Terence Winter and stars “The Reservoir Dogs” actor, Steve Buscemi, in the lead role. The HBO show is set in the Prohibition era in 1920’s and is about the gangster politics, gambling, and smuggling of alcohol. The cast is great and the show is produced by the legendary Martin Scorsese.
2. Mad Men
Mad Men is the word used for advertisers. It is a show based on the characters of a prestigious advertising agency in New York. The show is set in 1960’s. The main character is played by Jon Hamm, who has managed to gain a number of movie offers because of the brilliant acting he has done in this show. Mad Men has won 4 Golden Globes. It has been the best show for the last 4 years by a mile.
1. Game of Thrones
Based on the novel by George R.R Martin, A song of ice and fire, Game of Thrones is the number 1 show running in 2012. The cast is simply great, the writing flawless and the plot line thrilling. Game of Thrones has managed to gain audiences from all over the world and is the most followed show in the world. So far it has won 1 Golden Globe but there have been only 2 seasons. Expect this number to grow. The different houses like Lannisters, Starks, Baratheons etc. have allowed fans to align themselves with their team. This is truly a remarkable show and one that will go down as one of the greatest in history of television.
