Top 10 Best Summer Movies of 2012

Finally the long summer is coming to an end and with it the season of pop corn summer movies. Like other years, 2012 also produced several entertaining summer movies. Movies like The Spiderman and Batman were very well received by the audiences. There were also several summer movies like The Avengers and The Hangover which enthralled the audiences all over the world.

Summer movies of 2012 were great and audiences were waiting for these movies for a long time. As such, these movies were under pressure to come up to the expectations of the audiences and these summer movies didn’t disappoint.

To make a list of the top ten best summer movies of 2012 is never easy given the great number of films released, but I have tried to take all aspects of a film in mind when coming up this list. The list of the top ten best summer movies of 2012 is as follows:

10. Prometheus

 

 

Prometheus is a sci-fi thriller from director Ridley Scott. It stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fasbender, Charlize Theron and Guy Pearce. It was received positively by critics and audiences and is a box office hit. Due to the massive success of Prometheus, a sequel is also being planned.

 

9. Lawless

 

 

Lawless is one of the many summer movies of 2012 but the concept is unique. Lawless is a Western and crime genre film set in the Depression-era. It stars Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf and Guy Pearce. The movie was well received by critics and the portrayal of several different characters was praised as well. For all the gangster-movie fans out there, this summer 2012 movie is a must watch.

 

8. Magic Mike

 

 

Magic Mike, starring Channing Tatum, Olivia Munn and Matthew McConaughey, is a comedy summer movie. The movie is about a male stripper who teaches his fellow stripper how to make full use of his profession. The film was a box office hit and was also received positively by the critics.

 

7. Expendables 2

 

 

This summer movie is the 2nd movie of the Expendables series. The movie is action packed and has a star cast. The ensemble cast includes Sylvester Stallone, Liam Hemsworth, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Arnold Schwarzenegger. This summer movie was well praised by the critics and is a box office hit. Expendables 2 is a treat for all the action movie fans out there who can see all the legends in one movie.

 

6. Men in Black 3

 

 

Men in Black 3 is the third movie in Men in Black franchise and sees the original cast of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones reunite. This summer movie is really funny and a treat for the fans of the franchise. The movie follow Agent J, who travels back in time to rescue a friend and change history. The movie was a box office hit and the well-received by the critics as well.

 

5. Amazing Spiderman

 

 

With an all-new cast of Andrew Garfield as Spiderman and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, The Amazing Spiderman follows the same plot as the first Spiderman movie. What has improved is the acting, direction and some great 3D effects. Personally, I did not enjoy it much because of the same plot, but it is definitely worth a watch. This summer movie was a box office hit and being long-awaited, it was well recieved by the critics as well as the audiences.

 

4. The Dictator

 

 

Sacha Baren Cohen plays the Dictator in this R-rated summer comedy movie of 2012. Similar in many aspects to Borat, The Dictator is a very funny movie. The movie follows a dictator who has to face pressure from all over the world in letting democracy rule in his country. Sacha Baren Cohen is the heart of the movie. For marketing purpose, many unique ideas were tried. In one instance, Sacha Baren Cohen came to the Oscars dressed as the dictator and threw ashes on  a fellow actor. The movie was a huge box office hit and well received by the audiences all over the world.

 

3. Bourne Legacy

 

 

Jeremy Renner replaces Matt Damon as the new Jason Bourne in this action summer movie of 2012. The plot is a continuation of the first three films but the cast is changed. The best part of the movie is Edward Norton, who plays the villain in the movie. The movie is fast paced and action packed, so the fans of the Bourne trilogy won’t be disappointed. The film received mixed reviews but is a box office hit. This summer movie is a must watch for all the fans of the Bourne series.

 

2. The Avengers

 

 

Avengers was one of the most awaited summer movie of 2012. And it was worth the wait. Over the past couple of years, there were movies like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor which enthralled the audiences all over the world. Avengers brings all your favorite superheroes together for a great cinematic experience. The movie is action packed, making full use of the technology available. Star cast of Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Riffalo, Chris Hemworth and many more make this movie a must watch. The movie was a blockbuster hit and very well received by the critics as well. It is the 3rd highest grossing movie of all time and 1st in 2012.

 

1. The Dark Knight Rises

 

 

The Dark Knight Rises is not only the best summer movie of 2012 but it is also the best movie of 2012, so far. The movie sees the end to the great Christopher Nolan trilogy. The title is superb (which you will see once you watch the movie) and the cast is great. Chrisitopher Nolan is a genius and you jus have to watch this move to see it. Christian Bale resumes his role as Batman. Tom Hardy is Bane, who had to play the villain after the massive success of Joker, and Anne Hatheway as Catwoman. Jospeh Gordon-Levitt is Blake/Robin and the beautiful Marion Cottilard is Miranda Tate. The movie follows Batman who has been portrayed as a villain and is in hiding since 8 years but with the arrival of Bane, things change and the Batman has to do something for his city, Gotham. The movie was praised by critics all over the world and is the 12th highest grossing movie of all time and 2nd in 2012. It is the perfect end to one of the greatest movie trilogies in world cinema.
