Over the years, we have seen many great champions in Tennis. These champions entertain there loyal fans attheir peak, and are later replaced by newer, younger champions. We all remember how Pete Sampras lost in Wimbledon against unknown rookie Roger Federer; only it was passing over the crown from one champion to the other.
Fans have debated for decades as to who is the greatest tennis player of all time. We have names of some of the greatest tennis players of all time like Federer, Nadal, Aggasi, Sampras, Borg, Lendl, Connors, McEnroe, Rosewall, Laver and so many more. But the question remains: who is the greatest tennis player of all time?
Well obviously it is extremely difficult to name one tennis player who was the greatest of all time. The reason being that over the years, tennis has evolved, technology has been introduced, rackets have improved, courts are better. Therefore it is not possible to compare players of this era to previous eras. For this reason, I have decided to make the list of the top 10 greatest tennis players of all time. This list will include the greatest players to have graced the tennis courts by their spellbinding tennis play. As this is just a top 10 list, some names of the greatest tennis players will be left but rest assured, the top 10 players in this list are the top 10 greatest tennis players of all time.

10. Roy Emerson
Roy Emerson was an Australian tennis legend. He won 12 Grand Slams single and 16 Grand Slams doubles titles. No other male tennis player comes close to this record. Roy Emerson was the first player to win all 4 Grand Slams twice. His Grand Slam record is phenomenal and extraordinary. He is number 10 on the list of the top 10 greatest tennis players of all time.
9. Ken Rosewall
Ken Rosewall is number 9 on the list of the top 10 greatest tennis players of all time. He is from Australia. Ken Rosewall was at his peak before the Open era began in 1968. Before the Open era, he won 15 professional tournaments. After the Open era began, he won 8 Grand Slams. He was one of the greats of tennis and is still remembered as a sensational player.
8. Jimmy Connors
Jimmy Connors is number 8 on the list of the top 10 greatest tennis players of all time. The USA tennis legend played in an era which had players of the likes of Lendle, Borg and McEnroe. During this era, he won 8 Grand Slams and a total of 109 tournaments. This is still a record in men tennis.
7. Andre Agassi
Andre Agassi is a former USA tennis player and one of the most popular players in the world. His rivalry with Pete Sampras is one of the greatest in the game. He is number 7 on the list of the top 10 greatest tennis players of all time. He won 8 Grand Slams and one of the 4 players in the history to win all 4 majors. He has also won an Olympic Gold. He is married to former tennis star, Steffi Graf. He was a real entertainer and is still a popular figure in America.
6. Ivan Lendl
Ivan Lendl is a former Czech tennis player who is number 6 on the list of the top 10 greatest tennis players of all time. For the major part of 1983 to 1990, he was the world number 1. He won 8 Grand Slams and reached semifinals of 20 others.
5. Rafael Nadal
The Spaniard is a current tennis player and arguably the greatest clay court player in the history. He is number 5 on the list of the top 10 greatest tennis players of all time. He has a reputation of being a clay court player, having won 7 French Open titles. Nevertheless he is one of the four men to have won all 4 Majors. He currently has 11 Major titles. He also has an Olympics Gold. His major rivals are Federer and Djokovic.
4. Bjorn Borg
Bjorn Borg is a Swedish tennis legend and one of the most popular players in the history of men tennis. He is number 4 on the list of the top 10 greatest tennis players of all time. He had a relatively short tennis career as compared to other tennis legends on this list. He won 11 Grand Slam majors, out of which 6 were French Open titles and 5 were Wimbledon titles. He retired at the age of 25. This just shows that had he carried on, he may have won a lot more Grand Slams. Nevertheless he is one of the greatest tennis players of all time.
3. Rod Laver
Rod Laver is a tennis legend and number 3 on the list of the top 10 greatest tennis players of all time. He won 11 Grand Slam titles. He won all 4 majors twice in his career in one calendar year, in the years 1962 and 1969. He is often regarded as the greatest tennis player of all time.
2. Pete Sampras
The USA tennis legend Pete Sampras is number 2 on the list of the top 10 greatest tennis players of all time. He was immensely popular all over the world in his career and loved worldwide. His rivalry with Agassi is one of the best ever in the game. He won an astonishing 14 Grand Slam tiles which included seven Wimbledon, five U.S. Open, and two Australian Open titles. He was a great serve and volley player. He is known for his calmness in tough situations. Federer finally ended his reign as the King of tennis after beating him in Wimbledon.
1. Roger Federer
The Swiss maestro is number1 on the list of the top 10 greatest tennis players of all time. In a span of less than 8 years, he has won 16 Grand Slams, a record. These include six Wimbledon, five U.S. Open, one French Open, and four Australian Open titles. His rivalry with Nadal is perhaps the most popular in history. His grace on and off the field demands respects even from his critics( Nadal fans!! :p). His records in tennis are unbelievable and he is, by far, the greatest tennis player of all time and one we are lucky enough to see playing today. A true champion: Roger Federer!!

Most of the selections are spot on, Nadal should be third on the list though. Only Sampras and Federer can be placed about him. And he may well pass Sampras in the next few years.
